TRIGLAV, SLOVENIA 2864m
Introduction
Tiglav………….
Best time to go
The best time to go to Triglav is between June and October, however, any time of the year it can be climbed. We do not recommend going in winter without proper mountaineering experience, even in summer some sections are not recommended for beginners. For anyone needing help, you can contact us for a certified and licenses guide through our contacts page.

Routes
Whether you hiked up or take the cable car, you will come accross the Älplibahn Restaurant. From the hiking route you will see the restaurant and tables, with the cable cartop exit. You will want to continue straight in this direction past the restaurant. The people are very friendly and you can stop here for water, food, and rest if needed.

If you came up with the cable car, you will need to turn left immediately after coming out of the cable car. You will see this sign on your right and a viewpoint with a map of the surrounding peaks to your left. Go straight towards the woods and follow this path. Continue straight for about 20-30 minutes following the path.
After walking for about 20-30 minutes you will come across this junction. Pay attention as you will want to go straight on the dirt/grass path, not onto the gravel road. It is possible to go right, however, it adds a bit of time and is less straight forward than going straight. For this route simply continue straight onto the less defined grass path.
After walking for approximately 10 minutes you will come across this small bridge, continue straight accross and follow the dirt path. The next point will be a farmhouse.
After the small bridge continue walking for another 10 minutes you will come across the first farmhouse. Walk past this house and turn right onto the gravel path after passing the house. You will walk uphil from here until the next house with a huge Swiss flag. Continue straight for 30 minutes uphill.
After continuing to walk for approximately 30 minutes uphil you will see another farmhouse with a huge Swiss flag (potentially the flag will not be there). Another way to recognize this point is that it is on top of the hill, from this farmhouse you will start walking back down hill.
Next you will come accross a bench and continue straight

About walking 10-20 minutes you will come to this junction, keep to the left heading uphill until you reach the tunnel.
After about 20-30 minutes you will reach a tunnel. Continue straight through the tunnel. If you arrive early it is good to bring a flashlight as there are some uneven stones inside making it easy to trip. During the day it is quite dark as well, but light enough.
After the tunnel continue straight for another 5-10 minutes until you see the last farmhouse. On weekends there can be a large gathering where sheep are sold. Congratulations, you made it to Alp Ijes.
Section 3 - Directions From Alp Ijes to Vorder Grauspitz
There are 2 options to get to Vorder Grauspitz from Alp Ijpes. You can choose option A, a direct route which is easier and more simplified. You avoid walking along the ridge, this otion is best if you do not feel comfortable being on the ridge or is there is more ice and snow. The terrain is already quite slippery and rocks are loose. Or you can choose Option B, which is to walk along the ridge up to Hinter Grauspitz and then continue down a steep section of the ridge and walk up again to the Vorder Grauspitz. See the maps below:
For both options you will start from Alp Ijes, follow the red line (you can cross before or after the farmhouse, there is no real path so depending on where animals are you might want to navigate around them). This section is relatively straight forward. You just need to make your way up as indicated above. From the to of where the red line ends you will be able to see both Hinter Grauspitz and Vorder Grauspitz. From there you have 2 option to choose from depending on your experience and which route suits you best.
Once you reach the point where you can see both Vorder Grauspitz and Hinter Grausitz, you can choose which route suits you best. The easier route, recommended for less experienced climbers, and for worse conditions with ice, snow or rain, you can choose Option A. If you also want to reach Hinter Grauspitz, you can opt for Option B which is a bit longer and more difficult, you will follows the ridge all the way along the ridge, going up Hinter Grauspitz, down again a section, and back up the ridge to Vorder Grauspitz.
Route to Vorder Grauspitz - Option A
Start by walking down about 20 meters and start straight through direction the middle of Vorder Grauspitz and Hinter Grausppitz.
Continue straight throuth this section and after 300 meters or so you can start going slightly to the right aiming for the middle.
Continue going up at a slight angle toward the middle of the 2 peaks and then continue going up diagonally. There are a lot of loose rocks making it easy to slip. Be especially careful on the way down, going up is easier, but slips are common going down.
You will reach the last section after going up diagonally for 300 meters. This is the last section and about 100 meters to go. Go up and over this, then down slightly and back up to the final stretch. There are some exposed areas here and caution should be used.
The last few meters you will see the statue and steel flame. This is the final stretch.
Congratulations! You made it to the highest point of Liechtenstein! Enjoy the view and solitude!
Route to Vorder Grauspitz - Option B
For route option B you will stay up and continue along the ridge until you come to Hinter Grauspitz, this peak has a huge cross on top, many people mistake Hinter Grauspitz for Vorder Grauspitz due to the cross, however, this is not the highest peak of Lichtenstein.
Once you reach Hinter Grauspitz you will continue down along the ridge using extreme caution especially in the section marked with a red circle. Rocks are loose and this section can be extremely dangerous. It is recommneded to go with more than one person and use a rope on this section in case of a slip or fall.
Continue along the ridge as shown above. This will bring you to the final stretch of the route. You can also traverse a bit lower to avoid going exactly on the ridge in slippery conditions. Even in good weather the rocks are loose and slips happen.
This is the last section and about 100 meters to go. Go up and over this, then down slightly and back up to the final stretch. There are some exposed areas here and caution should be used.
